Glossary - Local Environmental Plan (LEP)
A Local Environmental Plan (LEP) is a legal document that controls land use and development at the council level. In Pittwater, our LEP is called Pittwater LEP 1993. The LEP categorises land into zonings and identifies allowable land uses and developments within each zone. The plan also contains clauses that control the way some developments can be carried out or that add restrictions on some lands. If we want to change any part of our main LEP, we have to prepare an amending LEP which is advertised, adopted by Council and approved by the Minister for Planning.
