In August 2006 the Minister for Planning, the Honourable Frank Sartor, requested Pittwater Council to investigate releasing land at Ingleside for urban purposes. Council's meeting of 20 November 2006, considered the Ministers request and resolved to undertake the preparation of a Preliminary Scoping Report to facilitate progressing the Ingleside Land Release.

To enable the preparation of a Preliminary Scoping Report, it was determined that workshops involving participation from key agencies would be required. The first workshop was held on 24 July 2007. This workshop established that, further to the original studies completed in the 1990s, updated environmental studies are required in order to gain an accurate understanding of the area and to better inform the land release process. Flora and fauna, European heritage and Aboriginal heritage studies have been undertaken and Council is in receipt of the draft reports. 

Below is an anticipated forward path regarding the Ingleside Land Release. It should be noted that issues that may impact on timeframes have not been identified and therefore progress in part or in whole may be delayed.

  - Undertake preliminary infrastructure and financial investigation of study area (advice sought from key agencies Sydney Water, DECC, RTA, RFS etc) and planners from the Department of Planning and a sustainability expert commissioned by Council.

  • The outcome of the preliminary Scoping Report was reported to Council's meeting of 19 October 2009.
  • Following Council resolution Council officers met with Department of Planning to discuss the outcomes of the scoping report. Awaiting decision or future direction from the Department.

  Forward Path

  • A report to Council on 16 May 2011 recommended a forward path into the investigation of Ingleside as a land release.
  • The resolution from 16 May 2011 is that the General Manager seek to have an urgent high level meeting with the Director General of the Department of Planning & Infrastructure and appropriate staff to urgently determine a forward path in developing a planning solution for South Ingleside, North Ingleside and Wirreanda Valley.

  • Since 16 May 2011, discussions are ongoing between Council, the Department of Planning & Infrastructure and other State agencies.
