Volunteer opportunities

Pittwater Council’s Social Plan 2012 – 2016 highlights the benefits of volunteering in allowing people to establish and maintain connections in the community, for intergenerational participation and activity, and for important roles to be filled such as community transport, childcare, home care, and school management.

Volunteers provide a wide range of vital services to the community and play a vital role in enabling people to remain connected and make meaningful contributions to their community.  Nationally volunteering is one of the most significant contributors to local communities.  According to the 2011 Census data, locally we have a strong volunteer base with overall rates significantly higher (at approximately 21%) than for greater Sydney at about 15%.

Pittwater Council is committed to encouraging and recognising the efforts of volunteers.  Each year a civic reception is held in December to mark International Volunteer Day.

Volunteer Expo

To further support volunteering and local organisations who rely on volunteers the Pittwater Volunteer Expo is run in conjunction with Pittwater’s Food and Wine Fair held in May every year.

The aim of the Volunteer Expo is to provide an opportunity for Pittwater’s community members to be exposed to a variety of volunteering opportunities in their community, in turn increasing levels of participation and social cohesion and belonging.  In addition, participating organisations are provided with an opportunity to increase their volunteer base and provide education to the community about the services they provide.  One of the positive outcomes of the event is the opportunity for the general public to have access to multiple organisations at the one time, allowing them to become better informed about the possibilities and advantages of volunteering, and for their interests, skills and values to be matched on the day. There is no cost for volunteer organisations.

If you would like some more information on the Volunteer Expo please contact:
