2007 Australia Day Citizen of the Year Award Winners
Citizens of the Year - Aileen Ogilvie (Elanora Heights) & James Chant (Bilgola Plateau)
Aileen has worked for many decades to combat the problems associated with drug and alcohol among youth, volunteering with Lifeline, the Premier’s Department, community Drug Action Teams (CDAT), family support and parenting groups, and grief counselling and mentoring programs at schools, as well as helping Balinese orphanages and residents.
James has for over 20 years assisted on primary and high schools Parents & Citizens committees and working bees, formed the Nippers and served on committees at Bilgola Surf Life Saving Club and donated building materials and labour to Collaroy and Blackhead SLSCs.
Young Citizen of the Year - Kristen Raper (Avalon)
Kristen is a youth leader at Barrenjoey High School, an active member for 10 years of Bilgola SLSC, assists the Salvation Army and an overseas orphanage, visits the elderly and is currently organising a Healthy Living forum.
Community Event of the Year - Artfest
Organised by Meredith Rasdall of Avalon and her team of volunteers, Artfest annually encourages creativity and literacy in Pittwater’s young residents, culminating in exhibitions of 700 youth artworks.
Merit Awards - David Palmer (Ingleside), Louise Edgely (Avalon) and Claire Atkins (on behalf of Scotland Island Community)
David Palmer of Ingleside and Louise Edgely of Avalon won Merit Awards as Citizens of the Year, while Claire Atkins received a Merit Award for the popular community event - H20 360 Film Festival - on Scotland Island.
