Statement of business ethics

Council’s business dealings are geared to achieve the best possible outcome in the interests of the Council and its ratepayers for the supply of goods and services.

In doing this, all business and employment undertakings are conducted with complete fairness, are open to public scrutiny subject to commercial confidentiality and conducted with the highest ethical standards at all times.

In the case of tenders or contracts, monetary value is not always the criteria for achieving the desired outcome. All factors concerning the engagement of a supplier will be taken into consideration. These could include reliability, the location of the supplier, past performance and the availability of the goods or services.

The acquisition of goods and services exceeding a value of $10,000 is conducted through the NSW Government’s Tenderlink portal. To access Tenderlink and view current tenders at Pittwater Council click here

Council staff & Councillors

Pittwater’s Code of Conduct requires staff to undertake their duties impartially according to the law and in the best interests of the public.

They are expected to demonstrate good faith, act with honesty and integrity, transparency, accountability and behave ethically in accordance with all other Council policies and procedures.

As the elected officials of the Council, Councillors play no part in making decisions regarding contracts, tenders or employment with the organisation.

Councillors will not be lobbied on any matter relating to the acquisition of goods and services or employment with the Council. Any such approaches are reported as a matter of course to the General Manager and may exclude you from the selection process.

Incentives, gifts & benefits

Council staff and Councillors should not be offered a gift or benefit in recognition of them undertaking either their work responsibilities or in the case of Councillors, their civic responsibilities. While Councillors and staff appreciate your recognition of their efforts, a simple letter of thanks is most appropriate.

From time to time gifts or a nominal value (ie. under $50) may be accepted in exceptional circumstances. However, the Council would prefer that NO gift or benefit be offered. Offers of a substantial nature or offers of cash are illegal and will be automatically reported to either ICAC or the police.
