Current Major Projects

Reserves

  • Newport Community Centre - the community centre is now available for hire.
  • Rowland Reserve Foreshore Protection - Completed which include pathways, viewing deck and the planting of endemic plant species.
  • Revolving Energy Funds - works included the installation of motion sensors for the lights in all public amenities and energy management systems for Council offices at Mona Vale and Warriewood.
  • Stormwater Harvesting Project - Council has won a $120,000 grant through the Federal Government's Community Water Grants program.
  • Avalon Skatepark Revitalisation - Council has completed work on the full refurbishment of Avalon Skatepark with the grand opening on Saturday 31 October 2009 at the skate park between 12 and 3pm come and see the pro skateboarders use the new facility.
  • Narrabeen Creekline Rehabilitation - located at the rear of the anglican Retirement Village is being undertaken so that water can flow through to the ocean.
  • Careel Bay Foreshore Restoration - Works are currently underway to reduce the foreshore erosion and environmental restoration using rip rap sandstone rocks, beach nourishement and planting of endemic plant species.  These works are supported by DECCW.
  • Pittwater Park, Palm Beach - The rebuilding of the sandstone dimension seawall north of the Palm Beach wharf has commenced. The installation of the sandstone boulders is to protect the toe of the batter and reduce the energy of wave attack.
  • Governor Phillip Park - community consultation is well underway in updating the Plan of Management for Governor Phillip Park.  It is proposed that following adoption of the PoM new picnic and playground facilities will be provided.
  • Halls Wharf Upgrade - the wharf was upgraded by Council in February/March 2009 and included the removal of the old wharf, steps and shelter shed, construction of a new structure to support the new shelter shed and bin enclosure, the installation of new pontoon and access ramp.
