Pittwater Council at its meeting on 19 December 2011, resolved to place on public exhibition the Draft Pittwater's Most Scenic Streets Register. The Draft Register proposes to protect and maintain the amenity of streets in the Register through management guidelines as outlined in a related document - the Draft Road Reserve and Streetscape Management Policy and Draft Streetscape Management Guidelines which is also on public exhibition. Key elements include:

  • The implementation of a Tree Replenishment Program. Many of Pittwater's canopy trees are mature or over-mature, so we need to plan for their replacement now for the benefit of future generations.
  • The restriction of hedging on the nature strip to one metre tall for local roads on the Register. In some areas, tall and/or inappropriately placed hedging is blocking pedestrian access, sight lines for motorists and coastal views from the road reserve.
  • Maintain panoramic views from key vantage points along the coastline for the benefit of the community. The vantage points are identified in the Policy/Strategy document. Trees and locally native plant species will not be pruned or removed to provide views from private properties.

The documents may be viewed at Customer Service Centres at 1 Park Street, Mona Vale and 59a Old Barrenjoey Road, Avalon as well as Mona Vale Library and Avalon Community Library until Wednesday 29 February.

The Register may also be viewed by clicking on the document link at the bottom of this page. Further details on the Draft Road Reserve and Streetscape Management Policy and Draft Streetscape Management Guidelines are available from the document link below.
