New Midnight Basketball Season Opens
Registrations are now open for Midnight Basketball tournaments to be held on Saturday nights from 20 August to 24 September at the Northern Beaches Indoor Sports Centre, North Narrabeen.
Tournaments are being held between 7.30pm and midnight and are open to young players aged between 12 and 18 years. A second tournament will also run from 22 October to 10 December.
Participants in Midnight Basketball play three matches, receive a free meal and life skills workshops, plus free transport home at the end of the night.
Pittwater Council Mayor Harvey Rose said he was pleased that the success of last year’s tournaments had ensured that the program could continue.
“The reason we can run it again is due to the great support from both volunteers and sponsors. “
“However, we are still keen to hear from more volunteers over 18 years that can help out on the night and sponsors who can provide in-kind offers or cash sponsorship.”
The program is run by the Midnight Basketball Pittwater Community Committee with support from Pittwater Council, Youth Reach - a local youth organisation, along with other community organisations and representatives.
Midnight Basketball is a national social inclusion program to help youth identify and embrace positive opportunities in a safe and motivating environment. The first Midnight Basketball program was launched in Redfern in 2007 and was such a success the program spread nationally.
