Resident Sought for Kimbriki Committee

Pittwater Council is looking for a local resident willing to volunteer their time for a committee that advises the Kimbriki waste facility.

The committee vacancy for a Pittwater resident comes at an exciting time for the Kimbriki facility, which is finalising a plan to build the northern beaches first waste recycling facility by 2015.

By then, Kimbriki will be the centre for a new waste collection scheme on the northern beaches and in Mosman, which will come into effect at the same time as Kimbriki’s recycling facility opens.

The new waste scheme will see food waste and vegetation converted into compost and bottles and paper collected in one bin instead of two, among other changes.

Environmental Compliance Manager Jeff Lofts from the Council said the resident representative would attend quarterly meetings of the committee, which also includes residents from Manly, Mosman and Warringah.

“The committee gives input into Kimbriki’s business plans and annual budget, discusses waste issues and reviews quarterly and annual targets and reports,” Mr Lofts said.

The four councils of Mosman, Warringah, Pittwater and Manly are all part-owners of the Kimbriki facility, which became a public limited company in 2009 to allow it to expand its recycling and waste collection operations.

Applications for the volunteer position on the Kimbriki committee close on Wednesday 15 February. Submissions should be emailed to pittwater_council@pittwater.nsw.gov.au or mailed to Pittwater Council, PO Box 882 Mona Vale NSW 1660. Applicants must live in Pittwater to be considered for the position.
