The Process So Far

The Council embarked on an extensive process of community engagement between 2007 and 2009, working with the community to capture their vision for Pittwater in the future.

This culminated in the Council’s first Community Strategic Plan, Pittwater 2020.  This long-term document, created with the Pittwater community, includes goals and initiatives for the Council that will fulfill the community's hopes for the future. The Council has developed a detailed delivery program in response to Pittwater 2020.

Since publishing the 2010-2014 Delivery Program and Budget, the Council has been informing residents about its intention to apply for a special rate variation.  We conducted a community survey to verify residents’ priorities and undertook four community workshops as a follow-up to the survey, further clarifying the community’s views.

In January, Council commissioned a special rate variation phone survey with residents to ask about spending priorities and their willingness to support a rate increase.

Council held two public meetings on 1 and 2 March at Avalon and Mona Vale. These meetings were held to inform the community about the proposed rate structure and program of works that will be implemented as a result of a rate variation. Notes from these meetings can be accessed below:

Go to Have Your Say to have ongoing involvement in the community consultation process. As ratepayers we take your views seriously and are keen to hear from you.

What has the community told us so far?

  • Over two-thirds of residents (69%) surveyed in January indicated that they support the rates variation
  • They are supportive of a rates increase as long as the Council provides detail about the program of works to be undertaken
  • The community would like to be given regular updates on the progress of this program if the rates increase is approved
