Pittwater's majestic headlands rise spectacularly above the ocean, providing excellent vantage points for enjoying the coast and the views. Headlands in the Pittwater area are:

 The headlands and rocky cliff faces are of Triassic Age, and formed from a sequence of sedimentary rocks including interbedded sandstones and siltstones as well as claystone formations.

When the cliff forming material is sandstone, which has a relatively high erosion resistance, blocky near vertical or undercut cliff structures result. Cliffs fromed predominantly from interbedded sandstones and siltstones are typified by a more irregular profile caused by the differing resistance to weathering of the various rock strata. Most of the cliff slopes lead down to wave cut rock platforms at and below sea level.
