Across the Landscape
The CEC's Across the Landscape - A Program for Park Neighbours project aims to improve water quality in the McCarr's Creek Catchment through promotion of improved property management practices by landholders. The project focused on the semi-rural area of Ingleside.
The McCarrs Creek Catchment is located between two of Northern Sydney's largest natural bushland reserves - Garigal National Park and Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park. Begun in March 2002, the project was undertaken in partnership with the NSW National Parks & Wildlife Service and was initally funded by the NSW Government through its Stormwater Trust.
Project outcomes include:
- Collaboration with the Ingleside Landcare Group
- Collaborative partnership established with the NSW National Parks & Wildlife Service
- A calendar for local residents - "Discovering our Catchment: McCarrs Creek 2003", developed with the assistance of an environmental science student team from Maquarie University
- Demonstration properties showcasing on-ground works to prevent erosion and control of threatening weeds
- A series of community workshops on ecologically sustainable property management to improve water quality, encourage native plants and animals and maintain healthy soil by recycling organic waste.
- Two field days held to assist the Ingleside Scout Camp
