Landslide
A landslide occurs when a mass of earth, rock or other debris moves down a slope.
Sydney's Northern Beaches is one of the relatively few localised areas of the Australian landscape subject to landslides. This is due to the predominance of coastal cliffs and also steep terrain surrounding plateaus.
Landslides can be triggered by natural causes (e.g undercutting of cliffs by the sea, heavy rainfall, earthquakes) or by human activities (e.g removal of trees & vegetation, leaking pipes, construction of roads and buildings.)
Clearing of bushland without Council permission is illegal and may cause landslips.
