RabbitScan
'The Great Australian Rabbit Census'
RabbitScan is a nation-wide challenge for the community. The idea is to help scientists map where rabbits are by asking residents to 'scan' their local area.
This involves looking for rabbits as well as the signs they often leave behind, such as damage to vegetation, dung and warrens.
Your sightings will be mapped on their system. The RabbitScan Website will show the results!
How to get involved
Send the following details of your rabbit sightings to RabbitScan:
- Rabbit numbers spotted (range from 0-10, 10-20, 20-30, 30-40 seen over a km walk or drive)
- Location/s of sighting/s and address or GPS point
- When seen (date)
- Please include your name and phone number or email address.
Via SMS
- The quick way is to simply let RabbitScan know by SMS or email when and where and how many rabbits you see. SMS the above information to 0421 690 892
Online
- Register on the RabbitScan Website and get direct access to the RabbitScan Google map data capture tool. Locate your site and load your sightings directly by clicking on the map. All it takes is a few hours, firstly looking and counting in the field, then logging your findings.
