Fairy Penguins
Fairy Penguins are the smallest species of penguin, typically growing to a height of 43cm and weighing about one kilogram. They are found along the coastline of Australia and New Zealand and breed from June through to February.
Fairy penguins typically return to their colonies to feed their chicks at dusk. They will tend to do so in small groups as to avoid predation, however, fox, cat and dog attacks on fairy penguins are not uncommon.
Please be aware of the dangers of letting dogs off leashes on beaches after sunset and help protect these incredible animals.
