Moist Shale Forest

There are three types of Moist Shale Forest:

1. Wet Gully/Creekline

Where is it found?

  • Browns Bay

What plant species dominate it?

  • E. paniculata (Grey Ironbark)
  • A. floribunda (White Sally Wattle, Gossamer Wattle)
  • E. punctata (Grey Gum)
  • Coachwood
  • Syncarpia glomulifera (Turpentine)
  • E. umbra (Broad-leaved White Mahogany)

2. Turpentine/Ironbark Forest with rainforest understorey

Where is it found?

  • in protected moister foreshore areas from Beaconsfield to Winji Jimmi

What plant species dominate it?

  • E. paniculata (Grey Ironbark)
  • A. floribunda (White Sally Wattle, Gossamer Wattle)
  • E. punctata (Grey Gum)
  • Allo. torulosa (Forest Oak)
  • Syncarpia glomulifera (Turpentine)
  • E. umbra (Broad-leaved White Mahogany)
  • Guoia
  • Cassine

3. Rainforest

Where is it found?

Along creeklines and in protected moist gully areas e.g:

  • around Cabbage Tree Road
  • Crown of Newport Reserve
  • above McCarrs Creek Reserve

What plant species dominate it?

  • Cabbage tree
  • Coachwood
  • A. smithii (Lilly Pilly)
  • Rapanea sp
  • Syncarpia glomulifera (Turpentine)
