Sandstone Heath

There are two types:

1. Sandstone Heath

  • Shallow soils in exposed sites at Ingleside
  • Dendrobium
  • Minkara Reserve
  • Monash
  • Elanora Country Club and surrounds

What plants dominate it?

  • A. hispida (Dwarf Apple)
  • B. ericifolia (Heath-leaved Banksia)
  • Allo. Distyla (Scrub She-oak)
  • Leptos. attenuatum (Flaky-barked Tea Tree)

2. Cliff Face Headland Heath

Where in Pittwater do you find it?

  • Exposed sites on Hawkesbury Sandstone headlands at Bangalley
  • Whale Beach Escarpment

What plants dominate it?

  • Allo. distyla (Scrub She-oak)
  • Westringia
  • Lepto laevigatum (Coastal Tea Tree)
  • Acacia sophorae (Coastal Wattle)
