Pittwater Community Water Conservation Plan
Conserving and sustainably managing the community's water resources now and into the future is becoming critical given the pressures of drought and the threat of climate change.
Pittwater households use more water than the Sydney average, meaning that action must be taken to reduce water consumption. The Pittwater Community Water Conservation Plan has been prepared to set appropriate targets for the reduction of water usage throughout the Pittwater LGA.
Extensive community consultation has been undertaken during the development of the Plan, including:
- the participation of a Community Water Conservation Plan Working Party, and
- a Web-based Water Survey
The Plan recommends strategies for reducing water consumption through a number of initiatives, such as:
- Community education e.g promoting existing rebate systems
- Free water and energy audits and consultation for households and businesses
- A rebate for upgrading to dual flush toilets
- Recycled water projects e.g planning for the supply of recycled water to new development areas and supply of recycled water for irrigation
- Stormwater harvesting schemes
- Providing a scheme for businesses to harvest rainwater on buildings with large roofs
The Plan was adopted by Council on 16 June 2008.
