Why Save Water?
Many households and businesses in Sydney have reduced their water use over the last 20 years, but the population is growing and rainfall is declining. Water will become more expensive as our water supplies are under increasing pressure – water charges are continuing to increase by about 5 % a year over the next 3 years. Many Pittwater households have been actively reducing their water use, recent water use has dropped by 6% in a year (2007-2008), making Pittwater the lowest residential water user in the northern beaches! However, we still consume 10% more than the average Sydney household per year (81,000 litres per person compared to 74,000 litres per person) and Sydney’s water use is still too high to be sustainable.
So Pittwater Council is raising awareness of how we can save more water. Look at your latest water bill to determine how much you consume compared to the water-efficient targets. To be sustainable in Pittwater, we need to reduce our water use by about 50 litres per person per day which is nearly 20,000 litres per person per year. This is quite achievable with some simple changes that will save you money as well!
