Water & Waterways
Aquatic systems in the Pittwater area include freshwater streams, estuaries, estuarine wetlands, freshwater wetlands, soft sediments including sand and mudflats, ocean beaches and rocky shores, ground waters, and the catchment activities that may impact upon them. The health of our creeks, estuaries and the sea is an indicator of the overall health of the catchments.
Three major water bodies receive runoff from 23 primary sub-catchments in the Pittwater Local Government Area. These are the Pittwater Waterway, Narrabeen Lagoon and the Tasman Sea. All are important recreational waters of the Sydney region and heavily used by residents and visitors to the area.
