Reading Groups

The library is now in its 9th year of running Reading Groups.  The groups allow people to read around the work of an individual author or a theme and share their reading experience with each other.

Themes and authors for 2013/4 will include: Fact vs Fiction,  Women & Friendship, Japan, Paintings, Turkey and Letters.

General Reading Groups

Mona Vale Library runs three reading groups which meet in the library for one session per month at the following times:

  • 1st Monday of the month

  • 2nd Tuesday of the month
    2.30pm - 4.30pm
  • last Wednesday of the month
    6.30pm - 8.30pm

Venue: Pelican Room (in front of the service desk).  Please contact Rebeccah Vick on 9970 1622 if you are interested in joining one of the groups.

The Men's Book Club

This new book club is a reading group specially for men in the community to encourage a discussion about reading likes and dislikes, and to talk about different books across all genres, both fiction and non-fiction.

The group meets monthly and there is no special literary knowledge needed, just an appreciation of reading and a willingness to talk about what you have read. Members are free to nominate topics for future meetings.

  • Every third Tuesday of the month
    2.00pm - 3.30pm

Venue: Pelican Room (in front of the service desk).  Please contact Sharelle Ravenscroft on 9970 1609 if you are interested in joining the group.

Reading Suggestions

We are often asked to suggest book titles or themes for individual readers and groups and to indicate titles that we may have multiple copies of.

We have listed some suggestions from previous sessions that have worked well and provoked interesting discussions.  The titles include both fiction and non-fiction.

If you would like to look at more resources to help you find a book to read please go to our Book News & Reviews page.
