How to Apply for a Permit

Complete the Merchandise on Footpath Application Form.  Ensure that plans showing estimated area are included. Submit Application Form and appropriate Application Fee to Council Council will consider each application on its merits and as per guidelines set out in this document.

If application is approved:
Applicant advised of approval and appropriate annual fee. Applicant pays annual fee.An annual Permit is issued to be displayed on the premises and clearly visible from the footpath area. Permit reviewed after six month trial and if no complaints received automatically renewed each year upon payment of annual fee.

If application is rejected:
Applicant will be advised in writing that the application is rejected. Application fee will not be refunded. Private use of the footpath will not be permitted. Council rangers will fine illegal use of public areas. The applicant may reapply at any time with a new application form. Annual fees are due from 1 July to 30 June or part thereof and shall be paid in advance unless otherwise agreed. Permits are not refundable.  A New application to be lodged and the appropriate fee paid for change of ownership/lessee.  Fees paid in advance for footpath rental are transferable to new owner/lessee.

The Permit

Upon approval of the application and payment of the annual fee or part thereof, a permit will be issued which is to be displayed on the shopfront window or other publicly visible area.  A new permit will be issued with change of ownership/lessee after lodgement of new application and the appropriate fee paid.

Permit Fees collected by the Council shall be held in a restricted asset fund for the respective Commercial Centre. The Council shall consider each year the allocation of such funds towards improvements within the Commercial Centre, in consultation with the elected Councillors, Chamber of Commerce and local community groups.
