Motorcycle Safety
Motorcycle riders are 20 times more likely to be killed in a crash than vehicle occupants. Motorcyclists are more vulnerable and more at risk of serious injury if in a crash.
In the Pittwater LGA in 2009, motorcyclists accounted for 15% of all casualties on our roads. This figure has been trending upwards from past years.
Pittwater Council runs road safety campaigns to raise the awareness of motorcycle riders on our roads. These campaigns are targeted at both motorcyclists and drivers.
During Motorcycle Awareness Week 2011, Pittwater Council ran a campaign targeting both motorcycle riders and motor vehicle drivers with the following messages:
- Drinking and riding don't mix
- Buffer - maintaining a buffer between you and other vehicles
- Check twice for bikes
