Stormwater Drainage
Council's public stormwater drainage network includes pits, pipelines, channels, gross pollutant traps, swales, bio-retention swales, bio-retention basins and detention basins, of which the various components capture, detain, treat and transport stormwater that flows from private and public lands to the creek systems, wetlands, the Pittwater Estuary, Narrabeen Lagoon or the eastern coastline.
The public stormwater drainage network comprises some 9,500 pits and 180 kilometres of pipeline and channels.
Mapping of Public Stormwater Drainage Pit and Pipe Network
Council has over the years mapped the pit and pipeline components of the public stormwater drainage network to allow its customers an easy find service. By going to the Public Stormwater Drainage Map related link below you will be able to zoom in on the locality of interest and see what information is available.

Public Stormwater Drainage Network located on Private Lands
The public stormwater drainage network located on private lands may consist of pipes or pits located in an easement in favour of Council, located on the line of a natural watercourse or located historically, without an easement. The public stormwater drainage network located on private lands may also be located in a channel of a natural watercourse.
Council may from time to time, require access to the public stormwater drainage network for maintenance purposes, in which case property owners will be contacted and access arrangements agreed prior to work taking place.
Private Stormwater Drainage Systems
Private stormwater drainage systems remain the responsibility of the individual property owners, up to and including the point of connection to the public stormwater drainage network. No connection to the public stormwater system is permitted without Council approval. Enquiries may be made to the Council's Boondah Works Depot on 9970 1175.
